COVID Diaries - A Place in History

I have developed a form of coping with the pandemic. I try to look at everything that is happening around me with a sort of detachment. Maybe it's the scientist in me that finds certain things fascinating in that I'm a part of some huge experiment. History is being made all around me. I want to sit back and watch all that is going on around me even though I'm being swept up in all of this just like everyone else. Maybe I'm a passenger in a speeding car heading towards a cliff, but all I can do is look out the window at the enormity of the cliff and go, "Cool!" There have been few events in human history that have affected so many people. I keep thinking about movies that will be made 20-30 years (or more!) from now where the pandemic is somehow woven into the story. I'm thinking about all of the stories that factor in October 29, 1929 or December 7, 1941. That's why I make these LJ posts. How will all of this look in the context of future history? Is this the beginning of the end? Is this some turning point that the next generation will point to as a pivotal moment? Perhaps we'll all get through this just fine and it will be a blip in history. So I look on in wonder at all that is going on around me, good and bad. It's a pretty damn good story so far.
